Searching for sponsors for the new Nuns Study Fund.
Western nuns, who have chosen to travel to India, exhibit
a strong desire to transform their lives according to
the teachings of the Buddha. They have forsaken the material
world of the west for an environment that will support
them in their educational and spiritual practices as Buddhist
monastics.
However, for a western nun the realities of living in
India can be quite daunting as usually non Tibetan/ Indian
nuns are not eligible to participate in sponsorship programs.
We are often approached by nuns who desperately want to
learn to read and write Tibetan simply to be able to communicate
directly with their teachers and read the sacred Buddhist
texts. Many are not able to find the support necessary
to attend our course. As such we have created a Nuns
Study Fund to help assist those nuns who do not have
the financial resources available to join our courses.
We are always searching for donors to contribute to this
fund, we welcome all donations, no matter how small. 100%
of the funds received by the Nuns Study Fund is
directed towards supporting the nuns education. A donation
of US$500 would fund an entire year of study for one nun.
Opportunities are also available for those who are interested
in the long term sponsorship of a western nun.
The courses offered at Thösamling Nunnery have been
created to encourage the education of qualified teachers
who can then return to the west, more prepared to help
others and to nurture the integration of Buddhist values
into western society.
There are many ways you can contribute to the Nuns Study
Fund and help sponsor the education
of a Western Buddhist nun.
Course fees:
A donation of US$500/ 420euro would fund an entire year
of language study for one nun. (can be paid in portions
throughout the year)
Monthly Sponsorship:
Monthly contributions of US$35/ E30 would completely cover
the living costs of a Thösamling nun.
A One Time Donation:
A one time donation of any amount would be gratefully
received and added to the existing study fund.
